Elizabeth City Homeowner Testimonials

"Since becoming a home owner with the assistance and acceptance of Habitat for Humanity, my family and I are so proud. Having a home to call our own has made a great difference in our lives. There are several emotions that I feel each and every time that I turn the key and open the door: I feel a since of pride, purpose, accomplishment, and respect. This experience has shown me and my family that with hard work, effortless sacrifice, and community team work, anything is possible.

Habitat for Humanity is exactly what their mission statement reads "It's not a handout; it's a hand up." Habitat for Humanity has given me and my family something that I often dreamed about (homeownership).  I can honestly say that the entire experience has given my family a "life changing" opportunity" that we might have not experienced. I am now a proud homeowner, community partner, and a new voice for Habitat for Humanity. Just as Habitat for Humanity has done for me, I would like to "Pay it Forward" and let future homeowners know that if it can happen to me, it can for you as well. "

"Throughout my years as a single mother, I have been through some tough situations. I continuously worked hard to provide for my children. I have struggled to provide with food, clothes, shelter, & everything else needed to keep my kids from feeling as if they have been slighted due to having a single parent home. This house it will provide us with the security of having OUR OWN house. We have lived in homes that were taken from under us & forced to move out, we have had to move due to protection issues, we have lived in homes with slumlords, as well as in homes with family members that made us feel very unwelcome. I have often prayed that the Lord would provide me with the means to give my kids a home to call OUR home. It is the one thing in life I thought I never would be able to provide.

"Due to our current living situation, I reached out to Habitat for Humanity to seek guidance. I never thought I would be awarded this wonderful opportunity to work with this wonderful program to purchase our very first home of our own. Words cannot explain or describe the happiness, joy, or the magnitude of our gratitude to all the people that have and will lend a hand in building this home with us. Thank you and I pray that we are able to pay it forward!"

"I’m one of the newest homeowners of Habitat for Humanity in Elizabeth City. Being a homeowner means to be free of certain stipulations that a landlord puts on renters. I don’t have to wait for repairs to be done when I’ve paid my rent. I have something that I’ve seen MY hard work went into. I see the joy, pride and happiness that I brought to my family anddme. Thanks, Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity, for a dream come true."
